    Description

    Antique Cased Silver Sewing Set
    French * Circa 1900
The silver sewing tools in this French necessaire are embossed with crossed ribbon and laurel leaf designs. The set includes a pair of scissors, a needle case, a stiletto, a bodkin and a thimble.
The tools are nestled into the fitted velvet and satin lined interior of their leatherette covered oval wooden case. They
have the French boar's head hallmarks used for 800/1000 pure silver made in Paris. The needle case also has the maker's mark for Charles Murat.
    The scissors are
    3 3/4" long. They
have tight steel blades with sharp points and they cut very well to the tips
    .
They are marked "Nogent" which is the city in France where they were made. This is a famous cutlery region and the makers that passed stringent quality requirements could belong to the guild and use this mark.
The thimble is in excellent condition with no damage and looks like it's never been used. It is about an American size 9 (15.6 mm diameter opening) but it narrows quickly and would fit a smaller finger. It's gilded inside. The silver on all of the tools is in excellent condition with no dents or other damage.
The case is in overall great condition inside and out. It's sturdy with a strong hinge and it closes well with a push button clasp. It
    measures 5" by 2 3/4"
    .
