    Description

Antique Figural Silver Swan Stiletto / Awl
    Germany * Circa 1850
The top of this lovely antique stiletto is in the form of a swimming swan
    .
It is silver plated and from Germany
. The detail on the swan's feathers is beautiful. The condition is excellent with no dents or other damage and the silver has very little rubbing. It has a steel shank and point and measures 4 1/8" long.
Stilettos had a variety of uses including unpicking stitches and creating eyelet holes in fabric that were then embroidered around in a technique called Broderie Anglais.
They were also used to transfer design outlines to fabric, pricking paper patterns along the lines and then rubbing them with a pounce pad or colored chalk powder.
I stand behind everything that I offer and
    guarantee
that it is exactly as presented.
