EARLY SAMPLER BY REBECCA HIXON WITH RARE SILHOUETTE CUT BY JAMES HOSLEY WHITCOMB OF N.H.<br>Includes an early 19th century sampler with decorative floral vine border centering eleven alpha numeric rows below which is embroidered “Wrought by Rebecca H Hixon Age 8”. The sampler is accompanied by a wonderful silhouette identifying Rebecca H Hixon. Silhouette with inked lace collar.<br>The silhouette was cut by James Hosley Whitcomb of New Hampshire; he was a deaf artist in the early 19<br>th<br>century with a distinctive style. His works are reasonably scarce and sought after by collectors.<br>Purportedly a family note from 1978 indicates some family history which includes Rebecca Hixon’s relation to one of the most famous female legislators ever in the history of our country; Mrs. Margaret Chase Smith of Skowhegan, Maine.<br>SIZE:<br>Sampler Sight is 17” x 13”.
